WHAT WENT ON IANINK.COM 2005
2005 was a pretty
good year: knocked a golf ball well enough to sport a 1.6 handicap, sailed
a little boat from Tahiti to Hawaii, released my first album, A Whole Bunch
Of Vowels, and even drew a couple cartoons, too.

HAPPY HOLIDAYS AND THANKS
I gave myself the small responsibility to draw four Alaskan Bush Town cartoons a month this year. Past October I drew a bunch of U2 cartoons, and the sailing thing messed up April pretty good, so now to keep my goal I felt obligated to whip up four final Bush Town cartoons to fit the bill.
Thanks to all who sent me kind emails over the last 12 months (especially those who welcomed me back to Hawaii after the sailing trip -- I appreciate that more than you know). Happy Holidays / New Year, and have a safe and prosperous next year to follow. And have fun, too.

DRINKIN', DANCIN', FIGHTIN', AND WILD SEX...
...now that's a party Alaskan Bush Town style (and it's just gonna be you and me.)
I first heard a Scottish folk singer tell this joke on Garrison Keillor's A Prairie Home Companion's annual joke show. I laughed so hard pee fell out my nose, so I finally broke down -- stole it -- and converted it into an Alaskan Bush Town cartoon.

SATELLITE OF LOVE
Well I didn’t think that anyone actually looked at this website. But after receiving a couple of good emails from folks in Homer, Fort Yukon, Whitehorse and Iran, I’ve been motivated to draw four new Alaskan Bush Cartoons before I take off on a trip tomorrow.
(I‘ve nursed my golf handicap down to a 1.6 recently, and because snow has fallen here in Montana, off to Pacific Grove the Colvert clan goes to continue our golf par excellence.)
Thanks to all who kicked my cartoon butt. I'm rather fond of the satellite one, and I know a fella in Yakutat who should bust a gut over it, too.

THREE TOTALLY WUSSED OUT SONGS
THANK YOU | ON MY OWN | IN MY DAYZE
The last time I played my guitar was a couple years ago. I was talking to you over the phone, and you asked me to play that song I wrote for you. And I did. After we hung up I just didn’t feel the need to play my guitar anymore.
And I didn’t until a couple of weeks ago. I rigged up what I have of my recording gear, and set to work to record a song. I couldn’t think of a better song to finally record than the last song I sang. Which was for you. And you -- yep! -- you (happy birthday). Thank you. Thank you so very much.

A POT O' GOLD AT THE END OF THE RAINBOW
I’m proud to announce that I’ve won a meaningful cartoon contest with a series of toons I drew pertaining to the rock and roll band U2. Above are my proudest four (the others can be found under cartoons/archive). Be warned, though; only the most ardent U2 fans have any chance at getting the obscure humor.
For anyone with the slightest U2 twitch, I strongly encourage visiting atu2.com, bar none the best resource for U2 information on the web.

Thank
you Humboldt State University for letting me use GIS to model my golf game!

IAN | A WHOLE BUNCH OF VOWELS
It took awhile. I had to sort through several hundred of my old recordings. But after three weeks with earphones glued to my head, I have squeezed out an album suitable for ianink.com. A love album titled A Whole Bunch Of Vowels.

LITTLE NAPOLEON'S ON THE ATTACK!
I’m currently reading Edith Grossman’s translation of Cervantes’ Don Quixote. A true classic and memorable story, and an outstanding read. Sometimes I think we are all chasing windmills, perhaps some more than others.

1/3 CLOSER TO THE FOOD CHAIN
I’ve settled on the first third of my book, Closer To The Food Chain, and have uploaded it this evening.

THINGS YOU WON'T FIND IN ALASKA
Life sure is great here in Arizona (I’m holed up finishing my school reports). All I do is drive around in my mom’s sports car, eat at the fine restaurants, play loads of golf, and marvel at my mom’s wonderful modern home (complete with widescreen TV, a fancy refrigerator, indoor plumbing, and flush toilets!).
(PS. The women are not snooty here.)

THE MANY USES OF ROCKS
Sometimes art mimics life and sometimes life mimics art. In the case of The Many Uses Of Rocks, both can be said to be true. Every once in awhile Bush Town gets hold of the self ordained ultimate outdoor folks. Strange creatures who fancy the writings of Edward Abbey, subscribe to the minimalist outdoor experience, and endure mosquitoes as a sort of idealistic blood letting. As a member of such a society, I understand the value and importance of rocks -- the ultimate tool.

THE SAILING TAHITI TO HAWAII WORLD
I patched together a little Ian’s World revolving around the Tahiti to Hawaii trip. It is a collection of thirty pictures / photos / cartoons / sketches that I drew while on the trip. Mostly it’s just a bunch of pictures of myself in the middle of the ocean on a small boat. There's also a couple drawings I’m proud of, including one titled Snorkel, and another I drew of Venus Point:

I WAS A SAILOR LOST AT SEA...
After 22 days underway, 2,300 miles, across the equator, on a small craft, just the two of us, Tahiti to Hawaii, I have arrived safely on land, and am now secure in Arizona (of all places)!

HSU GEOGRAPHY PAMPHLET UPLOADED
It isn’t technically finished yet (my resourceful and capable colleague will see to the loose ends). But considering this will be m last post for the foreseeable future, I’m going to post a final draft of my geography pamphlet anyway. I’m rather proud of it. So proud it has become the biggest image file size on this site, 500k.
And with that I’m signing off for the next couple months. Tomorrow morning I’m starting a nifty new adventure. But rest assured, ianink.com will reflect this experience months down the road; I’ve got one backpack filled with just couple changes of clothes, two tons of underwear, a blank drawing book, seven pencils, and three pens. And that should just about do it.

THE FLOATING PAGODA GAME
Under Ian / Ian’s Worlds you’re gonna find The Floating Pagoda Game. As part of my schooling I was ordered to figure out this Flash thing, so this is the result of my first Flash attempt.
The Floating Pagoda Game is an Alaskan floathouse simulator that recreates the Alaskan floathouse experience. Boy! I sure do miss living on the floathouse! And I sure do miss my old bucket, too.
And remember folks, never disrespect a wood floor.

TWO MEDIOCRE AND ONE CUTE CARTOON
Well, that may be a little bit harsh. Let’s just call’em cute. Cute cartoons. Yeah. Two cute cartoons added. The kind of cartoons safe for the world -- although I’m sure there will be a bunch of parents shocked by the idea of kids playing with real guns and knives. But I’ll tell ya -- I know two young men in Alaska who’ve shot their first moose by the age of 12. Think about that. A moose. Like shooting a Volkswagen. 12. When I was 12 I was playing with action figures and Legos.

USING GIS TO BREAK 80 CONSISTENTLY
I was lucky enough to be able to use GIS to improve my golf game for my classes last semester. It took a lot of tedious work, but in the end I was able to improve my golf game down to a 7 handicap. I also made a nifty poster, too.
Although they’re not cartoons, I’m proud of them nonetheless; my cartographic assignments from the same class where I made my Ian’s Golf poster:

FIVE CARTOONS UPLOADED
Spent a chunk of the weekend making five new cartoons. One of them I really like. Very iconic. A bit of a rip-off of Shultz's Snoopy flying his dog house Red Baron style. But I really like the Skiff Pilot. That’s the way I feel when I power out of the harbor, like flying off to do chivalrous battle with fish.

IANINK V2 GOES LIVE
Just finished ianink v2 this morning. Wow! More than 2,800 files, nearly 300 cartoons, three books, a big tub of space for 250 songs, and a spiffy Ian's Worlds section.
Should keep me busy for the time to come, too.
It took the last month to do. So much for my Christmas vacation. But, hopefully, somebody somewhere will laugh, and that’ll make it all worth while.
